Scandinavian homewares and furniture chain JYSK has confirmed an opening date for its new store in Athlone.
The new store, at the Arcadia Retail Park, will open its doors on Thursday, August 25, at 9am.
The company had earmarked a date in late July for the opening, but that has now been revised to August 25.
Previously, JYSK said the new store would create 12 jobs.
It’s the company’s 17th store in Ireland and will span some 1,200 square metres or over 12,000 square feet of space, and will feature the brand’s latest concept in terms of look and feel.
JYSK is promising some special offers with savings up to 70% to mark its opening in Athlone.
Founded in Denmark in 1979, JYSK has 3,000 stores around the world offering a wide range of sleeping products from mattresses, duvets and pillows to bedframes and bases, as well as stylish Scandinavian furniture, home textiles and décor.
When the business started over 40 years ago, it was primarily concentrated on bedding, specialising in Scandinavian sleeping culture with high-quality products – from mattresses, duvets and pillows to bedframes and bases – but since then it has massively evolved then to include furniture, garden furniture, homewares and home textiles.
The brand’s only other current store in the Midlands is in Portlaoise in Co Laois
Last year, it opened six new outlets in Ireland. At the end of 2021, the Danish company said that it may open up to ten new stores in Ireland over the following year, and eventually open 50.
JYSK, is pronounced YOOSK, which in Denmark, is slang for someone from an area called Jutland
